Mother, Childminder & Art teacher.
I am a mother of twins, who are 9 years old and attend a local Chiswick primary school. I’m originally from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. I moved to Chiswick, Acton Border, West London twelve years ago working as a PA. After having my children I decided to have a change in career and became an Ofsted registered childminder (coming up to 8 years) and now a nursery teacher, allowing me to be around for my own children. We live in a child-friendly welcoming home in Chiswick. We make the most of the many Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham parks, playgroups and children activities the area has to offer. After studying art for several years I am keen to encourage children to be creative and outgoing. I believe self confidence is important for a children to grow into a strong and confident adult.
We enjoy cooking as my husband is a chef and has his own restaurants called Picture (@picture_restaurants, http://www.picturerestaurant.co.uk) in Fitzrovia and Marylebone. Food is a very important part of our lives, I ensure that all meals and snacks are homemade, healthy and nutritious, as well as being varied and fun. Each year we try our hand at growing herbs and vegetables, i believe in the importance of our children knowing were and how are food is grown, prepared and enjoyed. As me and my children have FH (familial hypercholesterolaemia), we believe in living a healthy lifestyle, eating well and exercising as much as we can, which is helped by having a 5 year old Labrador, Bow. We love to eat out and spend time with family and friends, we are just a normal family living in West London, enjoying London galleries, sights and museums.
I have been running art classes for nearly three years and love doing them. I research new artists and techniques each week. As I have the experience of working with children as a childminder and being a qualified teaching assistant plus loving Art, I have some great tools to teach children the wonderful world of art and how to be creative. I believe that exposing children to the world of art, can teach them so much more than just being creative. Our children are the next generation and I would hate for creative children not to have opportunities to be creative. I believe in positive teaching during my classes, giving the children lots of praise and encouragement. Nothing is wrong in the arty world, its all matter of opinion, as the famous saying says, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I will always encourage and help a child develop in as many areas as possible, using their natural skills and talent. As my classes show many techniques and styles, the children can find their own perfect style to express themselves or improve what they know already.
